Build Like a Girl

Robotics, taught by girls who've been doing it for years.

Build Like a Girl is a confidence-and-tools program for young girls interested in robotics. The mentors are high school students from our FTC and FRC teams, including from Highlander Robotics 8033, which routinely competes at the regional level.

Why we run this.

Girls drop out of STEAM faster than boys, and we know when it usually happens. What works best: putting younger girls in the same room as older girls who already feel at home with the tools.

Sessions are hands-on from the start. Wiring, screwdrivers, working motors, things that break. Mentors lead. Adults stay out of the way.

Sessions run periodically through the year. Watch the events calendar or the newsletter for the next date.

Want to mentor?

If you're on an FTC or FRC team, we want you.

Mentors don't need to be the most technical kid on their team. They need to be someone who remembers what it felt like the first time, who can explain a thing without making the student feel small, and who's willing to show up for a couple of Saturdays.
