Sidekicks x Piedmont Makers

Piedmont Makers is excited to announce a new partnership with Sidekicks, a program of the Piedmont Recreation Department that creates welcoming, engaging recreational experiences for neurodiverse children and teens.

Together, we’re building an adaptive LEGO League program that lets children and teens explore, create, build, and connect through the hands-on experiences Piedmont Makers offers.

Interested in participating, volunteering, or leading? We’d love to hear from you. As we plan for a Winter/Spring session, we’re looking for help in three areas.

Interested families

Would your child be interested in an adaptive LEGO League program this Winter/Spring? Email sidekicks@piedmont.ca.gov with your child’s age so we can plan the best format for the group.

Neurotypical friends and siblings are always welcome to register for any Sidekicks program.

Teen volunteers

Is your teenager looking for volunteer hours? Teen Sidekicks support participants, help create a welcoming environment, and gain leadership and volunteer experience. Applicants can request to support Piedmont Makers programs specifically. Email sidekicks@piedmont.ca.gov for the Fall Teen Sidekick application — there’s no need to commit to a program this fall, the application just completes onboarding so you’re ready when the Winter/Spring program begins.

LEGO League program leader

We’re also looking for an adult LEGO League enthusiast to lead the adaptive program, a paid short-term position. No previous adaptive-programming experience is required. Sidekicks provides neurodiversity training, program guidance, and ongoing support throughout. If you have a passion for LEGO robotics and want to create meaningful experiences for neurodiverse children and teens, we’d love to connect.
