Piedmont Makers is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting STEAM education and maker culture for kids and adults across the East Bay. These terms cover how you can use our website, take part in our programs and events, support us with donations, and receive text messages from us. We wrote them in plain language and kept them short. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
Questions? Email hello@piedmontmakers.org and a volunteer will get back to you.
Agreeing to these terms
By using piedmontmakers.org, registering for one of our programs, attending one of our events, or signing up for our text messages, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use the site or services they cover.
In these terms, “Piedmont Makers,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Piedmont Makers, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation. “You” means anyone using our website or services, including a parent or guardian acting on behalf of a child.
Using our website
You’re welcome to browse the site, share links to it, and use what you find here to learn about our programs and get involved. We ask only that you use it lawfully and don’t try to interfere with how it works or how others use it.
We work to keep the information on this site current, but schedules, locations, and program details can change. When something matters to your plans, the details your coach, team, or program lead shares with you, or the event’s own registration page, take precedence over what’s posted here.
Our content
The text, photos, logos, and other materials on this site belong to Piedmont Makers or to the people who shared them with us. You’re welcome to share and quote our content for personal, educational, and community purposes, with a link back to us. For other uses, including use of our name or logo, please ask first at hello@piedmontmakers.org. We’re usually glad to say yes.
Program names such as FIRST, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST Robotics Competition, and Destination Imagination are trademarks of their respective owners.
Programs and events
Our programs and events are run by volunteers, and many happen in partnership with schools, leagues, and other organizations. When you register for a program or event, the registration form, along with any waiver, code of conduct, or league rules that come with it, explains what applies to that program. Those program terms work together with these.
We may need to change, reschedule, relocate, or cancel a program or event, for example because of weather, venue availability, or league requirements. We’ll let registered families know as soon as we reasonably can. Refunds, when they apply, are handled according to each program’s registration terms.
We sometimes take photos at our events. The Privacy Policy explains how we use them and how to opt your child out.
Donations and purchases
Piedmont Makers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 47-2831568). Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Payments are handled by third-party payment processors; we don’t see or store your full card number. If you made a donation or purchase by mistake, contact us and we’ll do our best to help.
SMS Terms
Piedmont Makers offers an optional text messaging program, Piedmont Makers Robotics Tournament Updates, for the robotics tournaments we host. Messages are sent by Piedmont Makers, the registered brand for this program.
What we send. Tournament updates for teams, families, volunteers, and attendees, such as event schedules, match and queueing reminders, venue and logistics updates, results, and announcements about upcoming Piedmont Makers robotics events, plus occasional messages about supporting Piedmont Makers.
How you sign up. You opt in by giving us your mobile number and agreeing to receive texts, for example on a registration or sign-up form, or by texting a keyword to our number. Signing up is voluntary. Your consent to receive text messages is not a condition of registering for, attending, or donating to any program or event.
How often. Message frequency varies. You’ll get more messages on tournament days and few or none in between.
Cost. Message and data rates may apply. Check your mobile plan for details. Piedmont Makers doesn’t charge for these messages.
Opting out. Reply STOP to any message at any time to stop receiving texts. We’ll also honor CANCEL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, and similar replies. You’ll get one final message confirming you’ve been unsubscribed, and no further messages after that. To sign up again, reply START or opt in again the way you did originally.
Getting help. Reply HELP to any message for help, or email hello@piedmontmakers.org.
Carriers. Supported on most major U.S. carriers. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Your phone number. You agree that the number you provide is yours or that you have permission from the account holder to sign it up. If you’re under 18, please get a parent’s or guardian’s permission first. Let us know if your number changes or you give it up, so texts don’t go to someone else.
Privacy. We use your mobile number only to send the messages you signed up for. We don’t sell it, and we don’t share mobile numbers or text messaging opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. See our Privacy Policy for more.
